“Christ Be Our Light” by Bernadette Farrell is a contemporary hymn suitable for Lent and Ordinary Time. The beautiful, haunting descant after verse 2 brings a new level of beauty to this hymn.

Sung by the Sunday 7pm Choir, recorded live at St. Francis De Sales Church, Ajax Ontario Canada. Our hope is that the music we make brings people closer to the Lord.

Longing for light, we wait in darkness.
Longing for truth, we turn to you.
Make us your own, your holy people,
light for the world to see.

Christ, be our light! Shine in our hearts.
Shine through the darkness.
Christ, be our light!
Shine in your church gathered today.

Longing for peace, our world is troubled.
Longing for hope, many despair.
Your word alone has pow’r to save us.
Make us your living voice.

Longing for food, many are hungry.
Longing for water, many still thirst.
Make us your bread, broken for others,
shared until all are fed.

  2. Singing along! Our parish and choir sing this gorgeous hymn a lot, especially at Communion. Now with many parishes being closed or restricting attendance and holding off on having choirs return… I sure do miss this. I'm a soprano and absolutely LOVE singing that descant!
