WHAT IS THE ATHEIST EXPERIENCE?

The Atheist Experience is a weekly call-in television show in Austin, Texas geared at a non-atheist audience. The Atheist Experience is produced by the Atheist Community of Austin.

The Atheist Community of Austin is organized as a nonprofit educational corporation to develop and support the atheist community, to provide opportunities for socializing and friendship, to promote secular viewpoints, to encourage positive atheist culture, to defend the first amendment principle of state-church separation, to oppose discrimination against atheists and to work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.

We define atheism as the lack of belief in gods. This definition also encompasses what most people call agnosticism.

  1. As a Swede, Scandinavian and European i think it's so sad and baffling that atheists have to 'come out' and like you describe people actually can lose their jobs and in some cases….like in medieval times….chased out of town (and their homes i presume). Just because you are the boss have the right to sack people from their livelihood?! It's appalling! What kind of democrasy is that? (in the ''land of the free''?!). In Scandinavia and other countrys in Europe that's illegal….you are protected from self-indulgent bosses!
In Scandinavia at least the majorioty of the population are atheists or agnostic. Do you have any religious believes it's privat that no one else have to be concerned with….and it's a culture of 'agree to disagree' that's the norm….many times we can have interesting and fun discusssions though….with mutual respect.
The only bible thumping ''missionary'' are mormons and Jehovas witnesses that is US-American believes from the beginnig i believe?

  2. Vikings wasn't brave, they thought they will end up in Valhalla, so they doesn't felt the loss of their lives so much.
Dave Warnock is Brave! He knows, there is nothing after, when he will be gone. That's bravery!

  3. i never understood this "church Community " thing. the times i went to church i was told who i shouldnt talk to who was the shitty people who was the gossip yada yada there was no community to it . all i ever heard was gossip and rumors about people i didnt even know it was like a highschool.

  4. I just did this recently although I felt it for a very long time. I could only do this when I didn't fear what I might lose. When I felt secure in myself, that's when I could do it. It's unfortunate that coming out as an atheist was the same feeling for me when I came out as gay. I live in Texas so it makes it that much harder but you know who truly cares for you once you are genuine.

  5. All """Theists""" are secretly losing their faith. It's hard not to. Speaking from experience, it's hard to see more and more people moving away from your faith and science disproving the faith. After years and years of blindly believing the bible, I too lost my faith. Because the church let me down. I thought if I believed in god hard enough and prayed hard enough, that he would cure me of my desire for other men. However, this never happened. Then someone finally broke through my shell and I began to accept myself for who I was and I'm happier now than I ever was as a Christian.

  6. It is so terrifying to think about just how much power religion has in and over the lives of Americans! Not too dissimilar to the control Islam exerts in Saudi Arabia and other Middle East countries…

  7. Out of the nearly 8 billion people on this earth and the millions that have gone before, NOT ONE PERSON knows or knew exactly what existed or occurred prior to the big bang. If you claim that you know then you are either delusional or are being dishonest.

  8. Even atheist believe in good and bad, if dont theyre not aware of life.
Its funny that only humans have the free will to do good or bad, all other creatures dont.
    Prove me its fake.
This somehow means this life on earth is a kind of a test for humanity only.

A person that dont believe in God steals from his friend when he looks the other way.
A person who believes in God does anything good for his/her friend even if they’re not around because they know God is around.
They know about heaven and hell so they don’t want to get punished.

Does people who think in this way ever meet “karma”?. Atheists believe in that too right 😉

  9. One thing. I’m full atheist. I use to be an vermin anti theistic. But then through the study of history and sociology took me to a very surprising place. Not all of us can be without this . Then the question becomes what is better for the society? And the truth and data firmly supports that when people come together around even false idea. It makes them stronger and more resilient That’s a that is undesputabble fact. Maybe some of it is needed for animals like us to continue.

  10. Accepting the loss of a belief can be troubling but, freedom from the shackles of Theism can be quite liberating. Accepting that we may not know what happens, is frightening. But if we only do things from the Theist's world view, there will never be any searching for answers. Because the answer for most questions asked to a Theist is "God"

"Philosophy is questions that may never be answered. Religion is answers that may never be questioned."
