Day 265: Sins of Omission — The Bible in a Year (with Fr. Mike Schmitz)

📖 Follow along with the official Bible in a Year Reading Plan: https://tinyurl.com/yf38uhnz

Fr. Mike explains sins of omission, and how these are some of the biggest deciding factors of who goes to heaven and who goes to hell: whether or not we did good works God called us to. He also reminds us that not all of the New Testament parables are universally relevant, recalling the parable of the talents and the parable of the wise and foolish maidens. Today’s readings are Matthew 25-26 and Proverbs 19:21-24.

We hear every day from our community how The Bible in a Year helps to capture hearts and souls for Christ. While we’re happy to make it free to our audience, it’s not free to create! It takes a significant investment to produce the podcast and distribute it free-of-cost to the public. You can make a gift of financial support to help defray these costs and enable us to keep bringing evangelizing digital media to all those searching for God: https://tinyurl.com/yj8evpqn Thank you for your support.

  1. Proverbs 19
21 – People may plan all kinds of things, but the Lord's will is going to be done.

22 – It is a disgrace to be greedy; poor people are better off than liars.

23 – Obey the Lord and you will live a long life, content and safe from harm.

24 – Some people are too lazy to put food in their own mouths.

  2. I always felt that no mortal human can possibly know the torment that Jesus experienced in the Garden. Often, when I'm in distress or pain, I offer my sufferings to God…uniting my meager pain with the Lord's. It doesn't take away my distress. But it seems to draw me closer to my Savior.

  3. Carrying Dawn M's mantle and message. Cultivating your relationship with the Lord, please intercede and pray for the souls in purgatory, they need our prayers. Consider listening to Saint Faustina’s Diary in a Year on the Marian Press Podcast. Each day's reading is just about 7 minutes long. What a gift! 9/22/2022

  4. I was fired a month ago. About two weeks ago Fathe Schmit spoke of being in brokeness, being tested, and being exactly where you are supposed to be.

I was cocky thinking I could pass any test God throws at me and I failed. Miserably. I cammot believe how terribly I am doing even though I have a family…

  5. Jesus used parables knowing each person would get their needs from it. If they saw Christ that is what they needed if they listened to Satan using their foolish and frail files. Satan seemed to win .

  6. Yelp!! I’m very selfish…
I place myself in a profession of healthcare ..so in order to get paid , I have to serve the needed.
And Yes, I do care..to the point…my patients or students try to take advantage of me.

My LORD, who sees everything! Give me grace, have mercy… so I can do the same for others❤️‍🩹🙏🏾

  7. I cannot WAIT to hear you tomorrow..! …hey, wait… I didn’t WAIT..! Ok, I REALLY couldn’t WAIT to hear you tomorrow… I had to hear you AGAIN..!! I’m a day ahead..! ❤️👍🏻

  8. For many years I worked for Catholic charities and this verse “the poor would always be with us” was my mantra…the sad truth of what the business world calls job security. And also the very reason why every effort and dollar should be made to invest so much into honoring God in sacred spaces ….

  9. Thank you Father Mike you explain this so clear tonight I am so grateful and I am praying for you and I know you all are praying for me too so I want everybody to have the most peaceful wonderful sleep tonight in Jesus name we pray amen love you all

  10. The betrayal and denial of Jesus by his friends, who were supposed to love him, must have hurt him very much. I know that when I have been betrayed, I feel pain in my heart. We have betrayed you by our sins many times. Thank you Lord Jesus for your death on the cross for our sins.

  11. I started this Journey 265 days ago, and today is Good Friday. It certainly feels like Divine Providence that I would have Fr. Mike reading the Passion from Mathew today and tomorrow.
I continue to pray for you Fr. Mike and everybody in this community. I truly hope the Word of God is transforming your life.
