Fr. Mike highlights the life of Ruth, and what seems to be the first day of hope she’s had in a long time. Sometimes it takes a long time to catch a glimmer of hope in the darkness of our lives, but Ruth reminds us that no matter what we’ve been through, God is always with us. Today’s readings are Judges 4-5, Ruth 2, and Psalm 134.

We hear everyday from our community how The Bible in a Year helps to capture hearts and souls for Christ. While we’re happy to make it free to our audience, it’s not free to create! It takes a significant investment to produce the podcast and distribute it free-of-cost to the public. You can make a gift of financial support to help defray these costs and enable us to keep bringing evangelizing digital media to all those searching for God: https://tinyurl.com/yj5oe4ag Thank you for your support.

  1. I came across Jeff Gavin's idea of timelined bible a long time ago when he had a talk show with then new convert Scott Hahn. I did think the timelined approach was a great idea, specially because I found it hard to understand the bible. That was many years ago.
Now I am 88 years old and so much appreciate your readings and reflections. But I may no longer be around fo finish it, so I've been doing 3-day readings every day.
Thank you, Fr Mike for helping answer some questions I've had particularly concerning the Old testament. And I'm really enjoying this daily journey. God bless you.

  2. Thank you, Father Mike! “Dear God, thank you for being so faithful. Help us to hold on and cling to you in the darkness. We pray for the light to shine upon us!”

  4. Wait… this sounds a lot like the total consecration to Mary, as taught by Saint Louis de Montfort and others! It is to Mary that we can offer Ruth's poetic words with a childlike trust. Mary leads us to Boaz (Jesus) where we are totally redeemed and fully protected and loved forever. I am loving every day of this Bible reading, thanks Fr. Mike. God bless you. Praying for us all.

  5. Judges 4 tells of the cycle of Israel's disobedience repeating again after the death of Ehud. Thus, God raises Deborah as a prophetess and a judge to deliver Israel from their idolatry. Deborah calls Barak the son of Abinoam in Naphtali and instructs him to deploy troops at Mount Tabor to conquer King Jabin. Barak promises to comply if Deborah accompanies him. The Canaanite armies gather to fight off Barak and his men but they are utterly defeated through God's Grace. Jabin's commander Sisera flees and hides in the tent of Jael until Jael brutally kills him. With this, Israel found victory once again over the Canaanites.

Judges 5 shows Deborah and Barak blessing God for His Deliverance. They command the Israelites to remember God's Faithfulness. They lament on their oppression under the Canaanites but know that they are blessed for the Lord is on their side. They note that while some tribes fought, others did not. Curses are inflicted upon those who did not fight for the Lord. They praise Jael for killing Sisera. With this, the Israelites find rest for 40 years.

Ruth 2 shows Ruth asking Naomi for the opportunity to serve God in the fields. Ruth leaves and finds the field of Boaz who was part of Naomi's family. Thus, Boaz allows Ruth to work in his fields on the condition that she does not leave for another field. Ruth thanks Boaz and Boaz expresses his gratitude for all that Ruth has done for Naomi. Ruth continues to seek the Lord's Favor. Boaz gives Ruth more blessings. Ruth returns to Naomi and explains her experience. Thus, Naomi praises the Lord for bestowing blessings on Ruth.

Psalm 134 is a Song of Ascents. It calls for us servants of the Lord to bless the Lord with uplifted hands. For the Lord made heaven and earth. Thanks be to God!

  7. The story of Ruth resonates so much with the story of immigrants. We immigrants tend to easily lose hope in facing life in a foreign land. It is by God's great grace that He included among His precepts, kindness and generosity to immigrants, which Boaz displayed so well.

  8. As usual, very interesting readings Father Mike and the explanations help so much. Thank you for your dedication to providing these bible readings for us. Until tomorrow. God bless you!

  9. God bless and keep you, Father Mike for this lesson which is very inspiring! To continue being faithful to God and remain hopeful because one day soon, God will change the season of our life just like Ruth’s ! Thanks be to God in Jesus’ name!

  10. A couple of wonderful hope verses Psalm 130 v 5 " I wait on the Lord, my soul waits and in his word I put my trust"
Hebrews 11 v 1-2 " Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see"
This bible is like a gold mine, and the more we dig, the more treasures we uncover.

  11. Naomi life portrayed a witness of the one true God…an attraction to Ruth🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾

“But Ruth said, “Entreat me not to leave you or to return from following you; for where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God;”
    ‭‭Ruth‬ ‭1:16‬ ‭”
