Ancient Babylonian Tablet Provides Compelling Evidence that the Tower of Babel DID Exist

Half the world seems to say the Bible is pure bunk, while the other half says it’s, well, the word of God. Now comes a professor who isn’t religious to say that a baked tablet from ancient Babylon gives evidence that the biblical tower of Babel was real. And his evidence is quite persuasive.

Genesis 11:1-9King James Version (KJV)

11 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.

8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

In linguistics, there is a theory that there was a single, original language spoken by humankind. The Bible’s book of Genesis, Chapter 11, hews to that line too, in the passage about the tower of Babel.

Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar [Babylonia] and settled there.

The people decided to build a tower to the heavens to make a name for themselves and avoid being scattered around the world. But the Lord observed this tower’s construction and thought if his people could build this with one language, they could do anything. God decided to prevent them by scattering them around the world and imposing many languages on them. Read Full Article:

  2. Obviously, anything built in the time of Nebuchadnezzar cannot have been the original Tower of Babel.

Holy Bible trumps scientific or philological (as here) reconstruction, whenever in conflict.

However, Nebuchadnezzar could have been given a translation of Genesis (where we now have chapter 11) and have decided "I'll succeed where Nimrod failed". And he failed too.

  3. The tower of Babel was where the city of Rome is in Italy today, used to be capital of Romans empire Carthage and was called Latium when tower was being built..not in Iraq it's a cover up because of the Curse of Canaan and the coming to shore of the phoneicans

  4. "From thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth".
Babylon was inhabited after this point, unlike what the bible has to say about Babel.
The other original cities, the bible does not mention scattering people from nor destroying them. Thus, even Nineveh remained inhabited for some time.

  5. The bible says they came from the East into the plain of Shinar from the mountains of Ararat.

North near Haran, the plains of Shinar are next to the mountains were those two rivers begin.

Placing it over Babylon is an old error, tradition, non scriptural.
Mount Ararat is also traditional, not scriptural.

    Genesis 8:4     KJV
"And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat."

Mountains ends with an "S", meaning plural. The mountain range, not the volcano.

Mt Ararat, the city of Babylon are both nothing more than "traditions of men".

I tend to agree more with "QE ornotQE".

We really don't know if the actual tower was a ziggurat or round.
The book of Jasher, I believe, describes more about it.
Like how the earth swallowed the bottom third, the top third broke away and was destroyed and the middle third burned from heaven (possibly lightning).
It also says the middle third takes three days to walk around it.

I know of a couple people who have actually been there and say it would be worth digging.
Forces at work there, seem to be keeping people away, sadly.

  6. 1. Nebukhadnezzar lived around 600BC, King of Babylon, famous for sending Jews into captivity and subsequently destroying Jerusalem.
    2. The Tower of Babel was built around 3000 BC, right after the flood. There's over 2,000 years between these two periods!
    3. Damn, television is bad for one's health. How could they confuse ziggurats in Babylon city to the Tower of Babel in Shinar, which is meant to be in southern Iraq?!
