Do Mormons believe in heaven and hell? The short answer is yes. Mormons—properly referred to as Latter-day Saints or members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—base their understanding of heaven and hell on teachings from the scriptures and from modern prophets of God. In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul taught that all people will be resurrected after death, meaning the spirit and body will be reunited. Each resurrected person will be assigned to one of three kingdoms of glory, comparable to the sun, moon, and stars. People will attain a level of glory based on their actions during their life on earth. The highest degree of glory, symbolized by the sun, is the place where God the Father and Jesus Christ live. This state of being is sometimes referred to as exaltation.

For members of the Church, “hell” does not necessarily mean a place of punishment; it can refer to two different places. One is spirit prison—the temporary waiting place for people who disobeyed God’s commandments in life or who died without a knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. People in spirit prison have the opportunity to repent and accept or reject the gospel. Depending on their choices, most people will eventually receive one of the degrees of glory. The other place that “hell” can refer to is called “outer darkness,” which is not a kingdom of glory. It is where Satan lives, and it is reserved for only the most wicked people who deny Jesus Christ.

It is comforting to remember that Jesus Christ will judge all people according to their own actions, desires, and understanding and that He is both just and merciful.

  1. "Outer Darkness" is the place where wicked spirits go between death and Resurrection. See Alma 40:13.
The final place for the devil, his angels, and the most vile mortals has no real name. We simply call them "Sons of Perdition".

  2. A man I baptized on my mission joined the church after learning about the degrees of glory because he felt like it was the most merciful representation of heaven he had ever heard.

  3. Can the only people who go to the Celestial Kingdom, are people only able to go there, if they are married and have children? Can LDS members get into the Celestial Kingdom if they never got married or have children? Can single LDS women get into the Celestial Kingdom if they are not married or can get get into only if they are married and have children? I do not know what the answers are for sure, so I am asking. Thank you for letting me ask you this.

  4. In the lowest heaven she said that this is for immoral people… or people who deny “heavenly father” and people who are hateful and everything but then explains how they are still given glory and then says that her “heavenly father” is “just” that is not anywhere close to justice last i checked. Also their use of the corinthians verse is not the actual meaning. The only way you can find true eternal life is through believing that the death of Jesus is your saving, and by repentance of your sins. All of this extra stuff that latter day saints add is not the point of salvation. Saying you believe the bible as scripture and missing the whole point of it is just a lie.

  5. Maybe the video should explain that someone wants to get into the first tier of the celestial Glory must be married as man and woman and to be sealed together at an Mormon Temple on Earth.
People who aren't married will not get in the presence of God from the Mormon Teachings I understood

  6. According to the book of ecclesiasties when humans die they stop existing. Also when Jesus spoke of death he compared it to a deep sleep on multiple occasions. The book of revelation says that the people who don't make it past the judgement will be gone from this earth once and for all (death). Which makes sense since God said to Adam that he is going to return to what he was made of (dust)

  7. The book of mormon is not the Word of God. Holy Bible : Genesis – Revelation, 66 books. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Repent of this false religion to follow Jesus Christ , the son of God only! Or PERISH!

“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭15:6‬

““If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭14:26-27‬ ‭

  8. They say that families will be together in the celestial kingdom but what if part of my family fall away from the church? Will I be separated from them if I am in the celestial kingdom and they arent? Wouldn't that be punishing me for something I didn't do? Wouldn't that be seperating families the antihesis of the olan of salvation?

  9. Rewatch this.. just the part where they discuss hell…. BUT INSTEAD, imagine they are talking about the earth and everyone currently living…

Their description of hell, is a description of earth

  10. There are NO degrees of glory. The scripture this is derived from is absolutely NOT a reference to what happens when people die. You are either saved from death or not.

  11. Mathew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.”
I pray that we all come to know the the true Jesus Christ who died for our sins and is the only way to salvation, there have been many prophets that came after Christ but none have them died for our sins.

Isaiah 43:10 Before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me.

  12. Galatians1: 6 – 9
"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we OR AN ANGEL FROM HEAVEN should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!
