  1. I am a new subscriber and really think this is a great show! Now I need to find the other episode on catholic music that was mentioned….

I have been involved in Music Ministry for about 30 years. The biggest struggle I have had during this time is one of the topics discussed – how to make sure I am just the channel to help bring the congregation closer to Jesus during mass. I pray before mass that I can be that channel and not get caught up in my own "performance".

So, I get the discussion about keeping the musicians in back. But, I disagree – it shouldn't matter where the music is coming from, done right, it should not be a distraction but a catalyst in the celebration of the Eucharist.

  2. We have schizophrenic psalms. The refrain is very jazzy or rock style and the verses are chanted. Drives me nuts. Went to an Easter vigil baptism with multiple people. After each pouring of the water and actual baptism, the drummer did a padumbum and a cymbal roll.

  3. I feel there is a place for the music. I love to listen contemporary Christian music during my day. I love listening to more traditional music at Mass. I would rather have no music than bad music at Mass. I think that some of this contemporary music is great for the younger kids to listen and grow closer to God than the other crap that is out there in secular radio. There is a time and place for it all. And I think that was missing from your show

  4. When it comes to good contemporary Christian music, my absolute favorite is Sixpence None the Richer. This is because they don't shove it down your throat, in fact you might not know it is even Christian music, if you don't pay attention to the lyrics. "I Need Love," "Breathe Your Name," Too Far Gone," "Loser Like Me" are all Brilliant songs & there are few songs in life as beautiful as "Melody of You." I honestly want that song along with Catholic hymns "Remember Your Love," "Shepherd Me oh God" "Center of My Life" & "The Servant Song" played at my funeral Mass. The story behind the name Sixpence None the Richer is beautiful too! Look it up.

  5. Imagine having musicians write melodies as well as Elton John or the Beatles and having the lyrics about Jesus. This is what we need. The melodies of Christian music and rock is lame and cheesy. The lyrics should be the easy part. Just sing some Psalms or Gospels. But the music and melodies need to be able to work and compete in today’s popular music world.

  6. Not a fan of this show. Never heard of these songs. Rap does not belong as part of a Mass as far as I’m concerned Didn’t mind the chant but only as a personal tune for meditation. Give me our old fashion hums. “Is it I Lord” “How great thou art” etc etc these with these hymns I can sing. They speak to me

  7. Our Orthodox synod uses predominantly Sarum chant which is very beautiful and ancient. This chant has stood the test of time in the British Isles. You’d never hear ANY of this bad music at ANY Orthodox Church.

  8. Funny enough, old 21pilots music has a lot of christian influences. Especially in Vessel and the albums before. To me, some of their music has definitely helped me during middle and high school.
